Photoshop Tutorial: Make High-Fashion Face Paint
In the realm of fashion photography, face paint has emerged as a powerful tool for creating striking and unique looks. By using brushes, masks, and other techniques in Adobe Photoshop, you can transform someone’s face into a canvas for artistic expression.
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

- Open the image of the model’s face in Photoshop.
- Create a new layer for your face paint by clicking the “Create a new layer” icon at the bottom of the Layers panel.

Step 4: Add Glitter
- Import a glitter brush into Photoshop. You can find a variety of glitter brushes online or create your own.
- Choose a blue color for the glitter.
- Paint the glitter onto the model’s cheeks and nose using the glitter brush.
Step 5: Fix the Face Paint
- Create a layer mask for the face paint layer.
- Select the Brush tool and set the brush color to black.
- Paint over areas of the face paint that you want to hide, such as the eyes, hair, and fingers. This will allow the original image to show through.
Step 6: Enhance the Style
- Apply a layer style to the face paint layer. You can use a variety of layer styles, such as “Stroke” or “Inner Shadow”, to add depth and dimension to the paint.
- Experiment with different layer styles to achieve the desired look.
Step 7: Refine the Details
- Use the Curvature Pen tool to create precise shapes and lines in the face paint.
- Set the mode of the Curvature Pen tool to “Path” and the path operation to “Exclude Overlapping Shapes”.
- Click to add points for a curved path and double-click to create corners.
- Click on the original point to close the path.
- With the path defined, right-click and choose “Make Selection”.
- Set the feather radius to 4 pixels.
- Select the Brush tool and set the brush color to black.
- Paint inside the selection to conceal the face paint.
Step 8: Export Your Creation
- Save your Photoshop file as a PSD or JPEG file.
