How to Change Background Color in Adobe InDesign
Adobe InDesign offers two primary methods for altering the background color of a document: creating a rectangular frame to cover the entire page and filling it with the desired color, or modifying the [Paper] color within the Swatches panel.
Method 1: Utilizing a Rectangular Frame
- Launch your InDesign document.
- From the toolbar, select the Rectangle Tool (M).
- Click and drag to draw a rectangular frame that encompasses the entire page.
- Fill the rectangular frame with the desired color.
- To send the rectangular frame to the back, right-click on it and choose “Send to Back.”
Method 2: Modifying the [Paper] Color
- Open the Swatches panel (Window > Swatches).
- Double-click on the [Paper] swatch.
- From the Color Picker, select the desired color.
- Click “OK.”
Additional Tips
- To apply a different color to specific pages, create a master page with the desired color and apply it to those pages.
- Patterns or gradients can be used as page colors by creating swatches for them and applying them to the rectangular frame or the [Paper] color.
- Ensure your printer can reproduce the desired color if you intend to print your document.
