How to Mute a Track in Adobe Audition

Muting a track in Adobe Audition is a simple process that can be helpful for temporarily silencing unwanted audio or for creating a cleaner mix. You can mute individual tracks, groups of tracks, or even all tracks at once.

To mute a single track:

  1. In the Multitrack Editor, select the track you want to mute.
  2. Click on the Mute button in the Track Control Panel.

The track’s volume fader will turn gray, and the audio from the track will be silenced.

To mute multiple tracks:

  1. Hold down the Ctrl key (Windows) or Command key (Mac) and click on the tracks you want to mute.
  2. Click on the Mute button in the Track Control Panel.

All of the selected tracks will be muted.

To mute all tracks:

  1. Click on the Mute button in the Master Track Control Panel.

All tracks in the project will be muted.

To unmute a track:

  1. In the Multitrack Editor, click on the Mute button again.

The track’s volume fader will turn blue, and the audio from the track will resume playing.

To unmute multiple tracks:

  1. Hold down the Ctrl key (Windows) or Command key (Mac) and click on the muted tracks.
  2. Click on the Unmute button in the Track Control Panel.

The selected tracks will be unmuted.

To unmute all tracks:

  1. Click on the Mute button in the Master Track Control Panel again.

All tracks in the project will be unmuted.
